Dear Reader,

The “Trippstadter Brunnenstollen”, an important, historical water supply system is, as the name “Stollen” conveys, a construction for which mining laws are to be applied.

The tunnel belongs to the village of Trippstadt and is under the supervision of the Mining Authority in Bad Kreuznach. Visits are only permitted in groups of 1 – 5 persons accompanied by an official guide. Protective clothing (helmet, waterproof waders and jacket) must be worn.

Entrance in 1978 in Quellbachtal

At present guided visits are possible on arrangement between 1st May and 31st August, but only a limited number can be allowed in  consideration of the Fauna (bats), the Flora (fungi and mosses) as well as the state of the construction itself.

The present tunnel guide, Mr. Helmut Celim Dipl. Hydraulic Engineer, describes how this system was constructed as well as a passage through it.

The article was first published in May 1997 in a brochure published by Trippstadt’s village council and the Tourist Association. The brochure is titled “Luftkurort Trippstadt im Kranz der Wälder” – "The climatic health resort of Trippstadt in the heart of the forest ". The article is now printed to provide information for tunnel visitors. This 3rd edition informs about the results of research work that was carried out  1991 – 1999.

Kind  regards
